UK high taxes hurting single-earner families

Families with one stay-at-home parent are taxed more in Britain than almost any other advanced country in the world, a report has found. The UK ranks 26th out of 32 nations in a global league table, imposing the highest level of taxes on families with a stay-at-home parent. The Family Hubs Network (FHN) is urging the Chancellor to unwind the tax raid on these families by doubling the marriage allowance in the Spring Budget. The FHN also calls for a change to the taxation system, replacing the taxation of parents as individuals with a levy on overall household income. A recent survey found that nearly 20% of the public would be more likely to vote Conservative if the Chancellor unveiled a genuine “Budget for Families” in March.
